Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a non-invasive, relaxing and calming hands-on therapy. The craniosacral system is made up of the brain, the cerebrospinal fluid, the system of the membranes inside the cranium (head), the 22 cranial bones, the spine and the sacrum.

The cerebrospinal fluid is the silent energy force that flows through the craniosacral system animating and infusing it with information, this is called the ‘breath of life’.

The therapist has the ability to access and listen to this field; knowing how to touch a client with precise and gentle contacts, helps the client feel more aligned in themselves.  Sometimes by accessing the right part of the clients body, the therapist can help the client understand what is troubling them and what they need to do to reclaim their equilibrium. Such work can also help the client access and release their healing potential. Some of the benefits are:

  • helps boost general wellbeing
  • enhance the function of all organs
  • increase energy levels
  • improve quality of sleep
  • reduce stress

Some of the ailments it can treat are:

  • headaches and migraines
  • chronic back and neck pain
  • jaw dysfunctions
  • digestive disorders
  • trama
  • many other physical and emotional conditions

CST may be combined with other therapies such as Myofascial Release and Massage to enhance the healing process.  All age groups can benefit from CST including babies and young children.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure to restricted connective tissue (fascia) this assists to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Fascia is a specialised system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web. It is very strong and densely woven, this is the body's natural protective mechanism.

Fascia envelopes and penetrates every part of the body -muscle, bone, nerve, artery, vein, organs including brain and spinal cord.

The fascinating aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of separate coverings but actually a continuous structure that connects the whole body from head to toe without interruption.

Some of the things that create myofascial restrictions are:

  • Trauma,
  • adhesions from surgical procedures
  • long term bad posture
  • inflammatory responses

It is perceived that a high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may have fascial dysfunction and most often this goes undiagnosed. This is because it does not show up on xrays, CT scans etc.

MFR may be combined with other therapies such as Massage and Craniosacral Therapy to enhance the healing process.
